Sound Web Development does not provide 24/7 support (24 hours a day, seven days a week). This company is run by one person who has a real job as a band director (see below) and also plans to sleep occasionally. There are many avenues of support however. Craig Heydenburg has been a band director since 1992. He currently serves as the Band Director at Bay City Western High School in Auburn, MI. Bay City Western is one of two high schools in the Bay City Public Schools. Craig Heydenburg has been running a website for his own program (Westernbands.net) for three years and has seen his program benefit because of it. In addition, Craig has done extensive web development for Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA)In January, 2005, Craig will present a session at the 60th Annual Michigan Music Educator In-Service Conference entitled Using the web to Improve your Band, Choir or Orchestra.
Technical Information
All of the packages that are available from Sound Web Development are based on Open Source software and take advantage of the benefits of Content Management Systems. The systems that will be installed and configured for each client will be based on a specialized installation of the PostNuke CMS. In addition, several modules that are beneficial to the music education community will be installed based on the package purchased.All of the software that is used is available freely on the web. In addition, the hosting services that are offered here are available cheaper elsewhere (although not a lot cheaper!). The position of Sound Web Development is that most dedicated educators don't have the time or the inclination to learn how to install and configure all this software on their own. They would rather spend that time with their family and students. Sound Web Development provides School Districts the opportunity to have a functional website for a reasonable price without the hassle of working out all the details!
